As you bike from Carmichael (if that's where you start) toward Discovery Park, views along the American River Parkway Bike Trail (photo above) will be seasonally dependent.
Views of the Guy West Bridge (photo left) and near Northgate Blvd (photo right) were taken in the Spring.
This view near Discovery Park (photo below) was taken in the Fall.

It is common to see wildlife on the trail. Birds (wild turkeys are my favorites - photo below), rabbits, and squirrels perhaps are seen the most frequently. A coyote frequents the Watt Avenue bridge area. Deer commonly are seen toward dusk. Snakes are seen somewhat infrequently.
Leaving the bike trail in Discovery Park, you next navigate to El Centro Road. Not long ago this road was relatively rural. It now has become moderately developed. As you approach the airport, it resumes its formerly quiet character.
Negotiating the airport isn't difficult, but you must cut across traffic lanes as you move from the left to the right side of Airport Blvd; do this with great care, as traffic often is heavy and impatient.
I take pleasure in the river views along the Garden Highway (photo left).
Traffic usually is light. I have had occasional difficulty with dogs in this area. Leaving the Garden Highway you will reenter Discovery Park and retrace your path back to the ride start.
