These two routes start and end crossing bridges. Only six miles from the start/end of this ride you will encounter the Guy West Bridge (photo left), which crosses the American River in Sacramento adjacent to the CSUS campus. The appearance of this bridge is reminiscent of the Golden Gate Bridge (photo below), which you will cross just five miles from the San Francisco end/start of the course.

Within view of the Guy West Bridge is Sacramento's H Street Bridge (photo below left). An early morning start may treat you to this tranquil view.
Navigating through Sacramento and West Sacramento usually is easy.
West of Sacramento you will cross the Yolo Causeway (photo right) and will bike into Davis.
Between Davis and Winters you will bike through flat, rich Yolo County farmland (photo below left), which often offers views of alfalfa, tomatoes, sunflowers, strawberries, or corn.

After Rest Stop #1 in Winters, you will take Highway 128 past the Montecello Dam and Lake Berryessa (photo right) and then will take Highway 121 over to Napa (photo below left). Do watch out for wide boat trailers.
After Rest Stop #2 in Napa, Old Sonoma Road (photo below center) provides lovely views of vineyards and - sometimes - distant hot air balloons.
CAUTION: between Waypoints 24 & 25 (Sacramento to SF direction only) you will encounter three miles of Hwy 121–Hwy 12 where there is no shoulder and the road is narrow and curvy.
Soon thereafter you will pass the Sears Point Raceway. Hopefully you won't be there on a race day, as this facility can attract a huge traffic volume.
Highway 37 is remarkable for two bridges: one offers an attractive view of the Petaluma River (photo below right). The other is rough and lacks a shoulder; fortunately it is relatively short.

Marin County is a jewel: attractive, affluent, low population density. Temperatures vary from cool in the southern portion and warm (sometimes hot) in the north. You will find Rest Stop #3 in Novato (north end of the county).
In this Marin County section of the course you will encounter three short climbs, which typically feel harder than they really are.
You will traverse two bike trails in Marin. One, a section of the lovely and popular "San Francisco Bay Trail" (photo below left), extends between Corte Madera and Sausalito, passing picturesquely under the Richardson Bay Bridge.
The Golden Gate Bridge is a short and easy climb from Sausalito. Although the bridge is short (less than two miles), biking its length is unforgettable. Be prepared for possible stiff winds.
Both rides start/end at the Windmill in Golden Gate Park at Ocean Beach.
A short journey through Golden Gate Park (photo above right) offers a special end to the Sacramento to SF ride; the park is so lovely you may even forget the fatigue of 132 miles.
The SF to Sacramento ride starts on the Great Highway at Ocean Beach and winds picturesquely past the Cliff House into the lovely Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
